National paper magazine ‘Politika’ in Serbia (journalist: Katarina Dordevic) has referenced data from EIGE om the COVID-19 related impact on women in their recent article that compares the situation in Serbia and Denmark (a country that has some of the highest scores in gender equality) as well as other EU countries.
The article reads that, according to the European Institute for Gender Equality, women are at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19. They make up 76 % of Europe's 49 million health workers and 86 % of assistants caring for the sick. In addition, women make up 93 % of workers engaged in childcare, 95 % of housekeepers, 83 % of gerontological housewives, and 82 % of all cashiers in stores across Europe.’
Similar to the EU countries situation is observed in the national statistics in Serbia too.
