Event

On 19-20 November 2018, EIGE experts will be visiting Croatia!

While waiting for the next Gender Equality Index to be published in 2019, we have collected some insights for each Member State from the 2017 results. This is what we found out about Croatia.

Croatia’s gender equality score is 53.1 out of 100. It increased by 2.8 points since 2005. Compared with all 28 EU Member States, it is currently in 24th place.

We have noted some trends from the Croatian results below.

WORK

Croatia faces a persistent uneven concentration of women and men in certain areas of the labour market. 24 % of women work in the fields of education, human health and social work activities, compared with 5 % of men.

MONEY

The population at risk of poverty marginally decreased both for women and for men. 21% of women are at risk, compared with 19 % of men.

KNOWLEDGE

The number of tertiary graduates has increased, mostly among women. 19 % of women and 18 % of men have a tertiary degree.

TIME

Women are still doing the bulk of the cooking, caring and cleaning at home. The gender gap is much larger in couples with children, where 83 % of women cook and do housework, in comparison with 5% of men.

POWER

The domain of power is Croatia’s lowest score. The percentage of women members of government decreased from 27 % in 2005 to 16 % in 2015.

HEALTH

The gender equality score in the domain of health is highest in Croatia, but there is still room for improvement: women are expected to live 57 healthy life years, compared with 55 for men.
