Statistics show that violence against women is a serious problem in the European Union today. About 30% of women in Europe have experienced physical or sexual violence. This is the case also in Lithuania.

To address the issue, a European awareness-raising campaign will be kicked off on 25 November 2016 and run throughout 2017. EIGE starts the campaign in Vilnius, where the Town Hall will be lit in orange for three days. In this way Vilnius will be on the global of map of “orange events” calling for action to end violence against women.

You are welcome to a press briefing on the following topics:

  • facts and figures of violence against women in Lithuania,
  • what is being done to eliminate violence against women in Lithuania,
  • what help is available for Lithuanian women victims

Representatives of local authorities and civil society organisations will also be present at the press briefing to give further information.
