The Council of Higher Education (CoHE) held a workshop on gender awareness in May 2015. Its goal was to motivate academics to take action in order to increase gender awareness at their home institutions.It was a turning point because it provided academics with basic policies and raised awareness about the elimination of gender-based discrimination, violence, and sexual harassment in the university environment. The Council of Higher Education established a department/unit in 29th May 2015 under the name of Women Studies and Problems in Academia aiming at the raising social gender equality consciousness in Turkish universities. This unit arranged its gender equality policy and sexual harrassment and violence policy. It is the responsibility of WSAPIAU to create equal opportunities for scientists from the beginning to the end of their academic lives and to offer diversity in academic life. The main administrative mentality of it is based on the ground of developing and practicing a policy which provides balance, diversity and equal rights among male and female academics. It.aims to overcome the issues that maintain inequality between male and female academics in the institutional academic structure in medium terms. Its goal is to raise consciousness and awareness towards gender equality at universities. It drives universities to open Gender Mainstreaming Course at every single department at universities. It orginizes Conferences, Panels and Seminars at universities in order to raise awareness about gender equality and preventing sexual harassment and violence. It aims to create safe and secure life at campuses; lightening every single corner, transportation for 24 hours), 24 hours open emergency services and units in campus, sexual harassment emergency call service. It aims to organize Gender Equality Trainings for all staff (administrative, academic and official personals) and students. It drives universities to establish gender equality centers, women centers and sexual harassment and violence offices at their universities.It aims to Increase the proportion of women in senior leadership positions particularly at the Rectorate, Vice-Chancellor level, and including Deans, Chair of Departments and Senior Managers and to strengthen the presence of female academics’ senior positions.
